The most important development that will increase the value of properties in Salobrena is the continuation of the motorway along the east and south coast of Spain from Barcelona to Cadiz. The only section of the motorway that is lacking is the part that goes through Costa Tropical. The motorway previously only went as far as Nerja, the eastern most town on the Costa del Sol. In March 2007, a new section was opened and the motorway, known as the Autovia del Mediterraneo, now extends through to La Herradura and in 2009 will go all the way through Costa Tropical to connect to the province of Almeria. This will bring the travelling time from Malaga and Almeria Airport to Salobrena to less than 1 hour. For those of you who need to travel frequently, this will make commuting much easier. The prospect of being able to drive on a motorway-class road all the way from Algeciras to Barcelona and on into France and Italy is very exciting.
The second important infrastructure project that will increase the value of properties in Salobrena is the finalisation of the motorway from the capital of Granada down to the coast. Work is in progress and the last section will open in mid-to-late 2008. This will bring Madrid, the airport of Granada (which now offers a growing number of low cost international flights), the city of Granada with its breathtaking Alhambra Palace and the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada even closer to Salobrena. It currently takes 40 minutes to reach the Alhambra and the city, 55 minutes to reach the airport and 70 minutes to the ski slopes.

Salobrena has approved plans to build a yachting harbour. This is very good news as the Costa Tropical is in need of additional mooring space since both the marinas in Motril and Marina del Este in La Herradura are nearing capacity. The new harbour will be located where the old sugar cane factory is, which is directly below Urbanization Monte de los Almendros in the small fishing village of La Caleta. It will add beauty to an area that has been a bit laid by the wayside.
Potential rental income is an important factor to bear in mind when making your purchase decision especially if you are planning on only using your home in the winter or for periodic holidays. Many of our villas for sale are currently successful holiday rentals. These villas earn significant returns that cover a good portion of the mortgage costs and ongoing expenses. We personally own 5 villas on Urb. Monte de los Almendros that we rent, so we know this business intimately. We are now offering a rental and property management service so we can handle everything for you.
